Ultrasonic Metal Welding Technology Evolves To Bond Larger Power Cables
by Craig Birrittella, Emerson
Since the advent of electric vehicles, many customers have had to endure long hours of battery-charging time to obtain the vehicle mileage available through a
rapid fill up of a gasoline or diesel-powered vehicle. To meet customer demand for long-range, rapid-charging vehicles, OEMs are developing and starting to deploy super-fast, battery-charging systems with peak charging power of 250 kW or more. These systems can charge batteries from 5% to 60%-plus of full capacity within
20 minutes—enough for about 160 miles of range, depending on the vehicle.
