Modeling of Twisted Pair Cable and Insulation Materials for PoE Applications
The original PoE standard (IEEE 802.3af) limited the power delivery to devices requiring less than 13 watts of power. However, the latest standard (IEEE 802.3bt), also known as PoE++ or 4 pair PoE (4PPoE), has been developed to deliver up to 100 watts at the source and up to 71.3 watts at the device by energizing all four pairs of the Ethernet cable. This increased power delivery capability opens new possibilities for PoE-enabled devices.
