Sustainable Materials for High Performance Wire and Cable Applications
Many markets and industries face the challenge of creating and modifying products to improve sustainability and promote a circular economy. Engineers and consultants are considering materials and methods that lower overall carbon footprint in many different sectors, and the wire and cable industry is no exception. As global energy production and consumption continues to increase, wire and cable will continue to be used to transfer energy and information over great distances, including above land and under sea. However, environmentally conscious methods of improving a wire or cable system are available in various forms. Managing environmental impact can be achieved by incorporating materials that come from biologically based sources, or considering materials that can last for exceptionally long periods of time, thus reducing waste and downtime during the final product’s useful lifespan. The wire and cable industry already heavily utilizes two of these materials, both of which are essential to growing and promoting improved sustainability within the industry.
