How Modular Connectivity is Reshaping Automotive Wiring Architectures

Modern vehicles rely on extensive wiring harnesses to distribute power, signals and data throughout the platform. As new features have been introduced, these harnesses have grown in both size and complexity. Each new function has typically been added as a discrete electronic control unit (ECU), connected via dedicated wiring. Over time, this has resulted in architectures that are increasingly difficult to manage, both in design and manufacturing. This mismatch between rapidly advancing electronics and static connectivity strategies is becoming a limiting factor in vehicle development.
